Amaravati: In response to the invitation of Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC), 8 international consultants submitted expression of interest (EOI) to prepare detailed project report (DPR) for Vijayawada Metro Rail.

AMRC Managing Director N P Ramakrishna Reddy on Saturday said that the Union government did not approve any mass rapid transit system such as light metro, medium metro or light rail transit system to any city in the country where the population was below 15 lakhs.

He said the DPR prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for Vijayawada Metro Rail project had been submitted to the Centre two years back. But, the Centre did not give its approval for the project so far, he said.

When the State government approached the Centre seeking permission for the medium metro, it suggested to go
for light metro, Ramakrishna Reddy said. He said German-based KFW Group was assisting the AMRC in preparation of DPR for light metro through an international consultant.

“The KFW Group issued global EOI on August 28.

Eight international consultants formed joint ventures and submitted the EOIs.

The KFW will carry out short listing of eligible joint venture companies in the next 10 days,” he said.

He also said the selected agency would be given 45 days to conduct study in Vijayawada and submit financial bids by November-end.

Ramakrishna Reddy said the new DPR would have extended corridors to Vijayawada airport, Krishna Canal junction in Guntur and Jakkampudi in Vijayawada rural mandal.
As per old DPR for medium metro, there were two corridors- one from Pandit Nehru Bus Station to Nidamanuru through Eluru road and second from PN Bus Station to Penamaluru though MG road.
