Srikakulam: The state government was unleashing a reign of terror on the evacuees of the Vamshadhara Project and inflicting violence on them for demanding a fair compensation package.

It was also trying to suppress them by foisting false cases against them under stringent sections, lamented CPM and CPI state secretaries, P Madhu and K Ramakrishna, while interacting with media persons in the Srikakulam town on Thursday.

The CPM and CPI leaders lashed out at the state government for forcible displacement of people without paying proper compensation and not completing works of Rehabilitation Colony works.

They questioned the district officials as to how they displaced families without completing R&R colony works. Farmers incurred heavy losses as they gave up their lands for the Vamshadhara project, but they were being harassed, the CPI leaers lamented.

They called for a two-day agitation against suppression of displaced people at Vijayawada on 16 and 17 October. They demanded for lifting of illegal cases imposed against them. CPI leaders, JVSN Murthy, Ch Venkata Ramana and Mahila Samkhya state secretary, A Vimala present.
