Globalisation is a ploy, alleges writers’ association
“Sahitya Akademi since its inception is striving to enrich the literature of all Indian languages. It has conducted various programmes and workshops for the cause of Telugu literature,” said S P Mahalingeshwar, Regional Secretary of Sahitya Akademi.

He was speaking at a one-day symposium on `Contemporary Telugu poetry in the globalisation scenario ’ jointly organised by Sahitya Akademi and Guntur District Writers Association (GDWA) in Guntur on Sunday. This time, the Sahitya Akademi has selected globalisation as its theme to conduct the programmes and the efforts of the Guntur Writers Association were commendable in this regard, he added.
Former Vice-chancellor and convenor of the Telugu Advisory Board of the Sahitya Akademi Dr. N Gopi said that globalisation has been creating inequalities all over the world though the world was fast becoming a global village due to the technical growth which was a part of it. However, the onslaught on our culture, society and lifestyles was an essential point to discuss at length, he added. He lauded the joint effort of GDWA and Sahitya Akademi.
S Venkata Subbaiah, president of GDWA, said that their association was conducting a number of such programmes in the district which deserved to be mentioned in the annals of Indian history of literature and the participants were submitting several papers on globalisation.
In his address, the chief guest on the occasion, Bommidala Krishnamurthy, industrialist, urged the Writers Associations to conduct literary programmes to evaluate the impact of globalisation on our lives as it would affect the social values and human relations.
Delivering a key-note address, Penugonda Lakshminarayana, national secretary of Indian Progressive Writers Association said that the globalisation was a ploy to prevent common responses on a common cause.
Ever since the onslaught of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation, the importance of money, consumerism and all other things related to materialistic life gaining momentum.
The primary aim of the writers’ symposia was to awaken the masses about the evils of the market forces. Popular writer Papineni Shivashankar appealed the poets and writers to highlight the evil effects of globalisation in their writings and educate the masses.
Noted writers K Venkateswara Reddy, B Lalita, V Nagarajalakshmi, C Bhavani Devi and Chalapaka Prakash submitted their research papers and S M Subhani, general secretary of GDWA, and others participated in the symposium.
