Several Villages in chittoor dist inundated

Tirupati: Villages and colonies in eastern mandals of the district were still inundated by floodwater, due to heavy downpour lashed the district for the last 4 days. The officials of the Revenue department have shifted the villagers from the inundated villages to relief camps set up by them. The average rainfall of 150 mm was recorded in the eastern mandals of the district in the last 4 days.

The mandals which were worse affected are Varadaiahpalem, Nagalapuram, BN Kandriga, Thottambedu, Yerpedu, Pichatur, Renigunta and Srikalahasti. In Varadaiahpalem mandal, the Aruna river is overflowing between Panduru and Siddeswaram.

Floodwater entered a government primary school and low-lying houses in SC Colony in Varadaiahpalem mandal on late Sunday night. The residents alleged that the officials concerned did not come to their rescue by Monday also.

Road connectivity between villages and mandal headquarters like BN Kandriga, Varadaiahpalem, and Nagalapuram was cut-off as water from ponds and rivulets was overflowing on the roads.

Holiday declared unofficially for schools located in eastern mandals of the district. The water is full to the capacity in Kalyani dam. Normal life paralysed in Tirupati and hill shrine Tirumala due to heavy downpour. Meanwhile, Tirupati Sub-Collector Nishant Kumar has inspected the Mallemadugu dam on Monday and instructed the irrigation officials to take the precautionary measures for preventing breaches to the dam bund.

In Tirumala, devotees are finding it difficult to stand in queue lines for darshan due to fall in day temperatures and open shelters. Low-lying localities like Lakshmipuram, Gollavanigunta, Postal Colony, Lenin Nagar in pilgrim city were inundated. Commuters had difficulties with floodwater stagnation on roads.
