Tirupati: The Congress, Left parties and other outfits observed one year of demonetisation as Black Day on Wednesday. They organised protests in the city and criticised the economic policies of the NDA government. The leaders, who spoke at the protests, have criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing policies which protect the interests of only corporate companies.

Rayalaseema Porata Samithi (RPS) Convener P Naveen Kumar Reddy slammed the Central government for making the economy go bankrupt. Prime Minister was making experiments with the lives of common people, he flayed and stated that the country’s growth went back by 20 years with the faulty policies of the BJP-led NDA government.

By implementing demonetisation and GST, the Modi government has brought 120 crore Indians to a stage of ‘Chaiwalas’. At a protest held before the Tirupati Municipal Corporation office, he performed the first death anniversary of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes. At a dharna held by Congress party, former MP Chinta Mohan condemned the note ban and said that with the economic policies of the government, GDP came down to 2 per cent.

Finding fault with the demonetisation, he said that there were 83 crores of population residing in villages in the country. For them, only 40,000 banks and 11,000 ATMs were provided in villages. As there was no banking system to meet the requirements of all the people in the villages, they were having miserable life after demonetisation. Party leaders R Sridevi, Savithri Yadav, Santhi Yadav, P Prabhakar and others participated.

The Left parties also held a protest rally in the city and termed the Prime Minister as anti-poor. With the demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes the black money in the country turned into white money. The decision proved to be a scam, the leaders alleged. They garlanded the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. Leaders Kandarapu Murali, C Rama Naidu, Chinnam Penchalaiah and others took part.

Meanwhile, many jokes and messages have flooded the social media on the first anniversary of demonetisation. While some posts supported PM’s decision, others sought explanation from the Central government about the intended objectives of demonetisation. The netizens reminded Modi’s 50 days promise to revive the economy, and questioned the status of black economy, corruption and India’s move towards digital economy.
