Eluru: West Godavari district collector K Bhaskar directed officials to initiate necessary action on the encroachers of the drains and conduct a comprehensive inquiry into it. He was receiving the representations from the public during ‘Mee Kosam’ (Grievance Cell) programme held in Collectorate on Monday here.
Responding to a representation of Chittiyya of Dharmajigudem in Lingapalem mandal, the collector said no one would be spared if they involve in encroachment of drainages and roads.
According to Chittiyya, a person of Dharmajigudem encroached road and filled up the drain which blocked the drainage flow, causing severe health problems in the surrounding area. The collector directed the panchayat officials to visit the area and if any encroachements were found, he directed the officials to remove the illegal constructions enabling free flow of drainage.
K Ramanjanyulu of Akiveedu village complained to the collector that some people have been resorting to illegal fish ponds and taking up prawn cultivation in those ponds. Due to this prawn cultivation, the drinking water tank that supplies water to 15 villages was getting polluted, he said and added that about 1,000 acres of farm field also got damaged with salt water from the prawn ponds.
The collector directed joint director of fisheries to visit the place and take necessary steps and submit a report in this regard. He said that the fish farmers should follow the rules laid down in G.O.7 in the district to establish a fish pond.
Collector Bhasker said that the officials would dismantle those ponds if the fish farmers violated the rules in Go 7. DWAMA project director Ganesh Kumar, DRDA project director K Srinivasulu, district panchayat official Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, R and B SE K Nirmala, survey and land records assistant director Lal Ahmad and others participated in the programme.
