Vijayawada: The Congress on Tuesday demanded that the State government order judicial probe into circumstances that led to boat capsize which claimed lives of 22 pilgrims going to Pavitra Sangamam to perform a ritual.

Former Union Minister Pallam Raju, who led the Congress fact-finding panel on the incident, commented at Pavitra Sangamam that it was Tourism department official who encouraged the pilgrims board the ill-fated private boat.

It had become a practice for the TDP government to constitute committees when mishaps occur. The committee which was appointed in the aftermath of pilgrims’ death during Godavari Pushkaralu had not come with any result so far. What was the benefit of such committees which never disclose their findings, he questioned.
