Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar, directed officials that all villages in the district should be garbage-free by March. For this, he suggested for the officials to take up special drive in the villages. The Collector was presiding over the review meeting of development and tax collection in Grama Panchayats with EOPRDs here on Friday.

Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said that to make the villages garbage-free, the extension officers of Panchayat Raj department (EOPRD) and village secretary should supervise the sanitation in the villages. Vehicles would be provided to collect the garbage from houses in every village. He directed the Panchayati officials to complete the documentation in two days for vehicles to 470 beneficiaries.

The Collector warned that stringent action would be initiated against the concerned officials if they failed to construct solid waste management sheds in 909 Grama Panchayats in the district by March. He said that he directed the panchayat officials two years back to construct these sheds in the villages to convert the garbage and waste into compost fertiliser. However, only 150 Panchayats have constructed the sheds and they are not constructed so far in the remaining villages.

He said that the tax collection in 909 village panchayats should be done through E-PoS machines. HDFC Bank has provided E-PoS machines to the panchayats. Except for four places, all villages were equipped with the E-PoS machines. He said that all activities of panchayats should be conducted online and already works completed in 756 panchayats.

As there was network problem, Kukunuru mandal was exempted at present and remaining panchayats should complete the problems of online by Saturday evening. Joint Collector-2 MH Sheriff, District Panchayat Officer Mullapudi Venkata Ramana participated in the meeting.
