Eluru: Police arrested four dacoits and seized 41.5 sovereigns (about 330 gram) gold, 1.4 kg silver ornaments valued at Rs 10.5 lakh at Lingaraogudem village in Eluru rural mandal on Thursday.

Giving details of the arrests at a media conference here, district SP M Ravi Prakash said that a complaint had been received from Sanku Sudhamani of Lakshmi Ganapati Nagar in Chodimella panchayat of Eluru rural mandal stating that some unknown persons entered her house posing as courier boys and tied her to a chair and plastered her hands and mouth on November 7 at 1.30 pm. Later the dacoits decamped with gold ornaments, silver articles and Cash from the house.

On the complaint a police team was formed to nab the culprits, the SP said. The police identified a Scorpio vehicle moving in the area at the time of the incident through a CC camera footage and were able to trace it.

On investigation, it was revealed that four persons entered the house and committed the theft. Later, after further investigations, police team headed by rural SI K Nagendra Prasad and in-charge CI B V Nayak arrested Sayyad Abbas (36) of Veluru, Arakonam taluk, Tamil Nadu, Soma Sundaram Subrahmanyam alias Somu (30) , Periyar Nagar, Tiruttani Taluka, Viruvallur district, TN, Veeravalli Mukesh alias Nagoor Meera Vali (30), Periyar Nagar, Tiruttani taluk, Silambrsan alias Silambu (26) of Anuvartikan peta, Arakonam taluk in the presence of witnesses at Lingaraogudem village in Madepalli panchayat on Eluru-Kaikalur road.

The SP said that the leader of the gang Abbas originally hails from Eluru and went to Hyderabad several years ago where he committed some thefts and went to Chennai 10 years ago where he settled. He did some business in Chennai and faced financial problems. Following this, he again started thefts. He formed a gang with Soma Sundaram, Veeravalli Mukesh and Silambrasan and started dacoities in various places.

They conducted recce for two hours at Lakshmi Ganapati Nagar on November 7 before entering the house of Sanku Sudha Mani posing as courier boys. A CC camera near the house cached the movement of their vehicle in that area.

On the basis of the footage, police traced the vehicle and found the vehicle went to Nellore from Eluru and again returned to Eluru after the theft. On verification, it was learnt that vehicle stopped at Lingaraogudem area in Madepalli. Immediately, police reached there and arrested them. The stolen property was in the vehicle, SP Ravi Prakash added.
