Amaravati: The State government on Monday informed Fathima Medical College students that only the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Central government could resolve their problem.

This was disclosed to a group of students of the college who met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat on Monday. Naidu told them that the State government would request the MCI to see if the students could be provided admission in the next batch in Fathima College.

Naidu informed the students that the State government was ready to bear the coaching expenditure of the students if they want to appear for NEET examination. The Chief Minister also warned that stringent action would be taken against the Fatima College management if they filed cases against the students and their parents.

He also told them that the State government would request the Centre to file a petition in Supreme Court. Following Naidu’s meeting with the students, both the Houses passed a resolution on Monday requesting the Centre to file a review petition in the apex court. Minister for Health and Medical Education Kamineni Srinivas stated that Chandrababu Naidu would urge the Central government to push the case in Supreme Court.

Srinivas said that the issue was not in the hands of AP government. He pointed out that only the Medical Council of India and the Central government could solve the problem. Chandrababu Naidu and Srinivas were upset over Fathima students climbing a cell tower in Vijayawada on Sunday.

They explained to them that the government was making genuine efforts to get their problem solved. Meanwhile, students of Fathima College and their parents said that the students would suffer if the government failed to come to their rescue.

Suggesting some alternative measures, Srinivas said that it would be a wise move if the students prepared for the ensuing NEET exam. He also assured that the government would ensure that the fee paid by them to the college was returned.
