Tirupati: Chittoor police have launched a face-recognition smart phone app(criminalsface recognition app) as a pilot project.Through this app, police can easily know the old or habitual criminals from previous records. For the first time in AndhraPradesh, this type of new app came into implementation here two days ago. Anantapur Range DIG of Police J Prabhakar Rao launched the face recognition app for tracking old offenders with the help of technology.

Aim of this app is to find out notorious criminals with their previous crime background. Sometimes, local police face difficultyto identify whether a particular person is a terrorist or anti-social element. In this context Chittoor police find a solution through this new face recognition app. From SI to SP can handle the app through their smart phones. When police go for rounds for night patrolling and if they found any suspected person, they can know the details from department computers server.

AP, Karnataka, TamilNadu, Kerala state police departments computer data servers are connected with this app through online. Whenever the police want to know the details of the suspected persons, with having the photo they can know the details of the photo. If such person is an old offender, entire crime track record will be appeared in smart phone screen in minutes.

Total 10,000 redsander smugglers and 3000 suspected persons details were already uploaded in Chittoor police server. Chennai basedsoftware company provides IT supporting to this app for three months free of cost.

According to Chittoor police records, so far more than 3,000 notorious interstate criminals from TamilNadu, Kerala and Karnataka are indulged in crimes in Chittoor district. Previously these habitual offenders details are not available at district police headquarters. In the new software all the southern four states crime bureau records are synchronixed with online server.

It helps police to prevent some crimes in their respective police station limits. Chittoor SP RajsekharBabu said that face recognition app is very useful in prevention of crimes across the district, mainly interstate border areas near Karnataka and TamilNadu.
