Kurnool: The Outer Ring Road passing through Safa Engineering College National High Way 44 (Bengalore and Hyderabad) has become notorious for fatal road accidents involving heavy vehicles. The construction of outer ring road is not yet completed. But heavy vehicles are being diverted through ORR to reduce traffic problems.

Lorries and other heavy vehicles coming from Chennai, Tirupati and Nandyal carrying containers and other goods and heading towards Bengaluru and Hyderabad are diverted through ORR near Safa Engineering College. There is a blind curve ahead of Safa Engineering College. Drivers who are unaware of the blind curve are losing control resulting in overturning of the vehicles.

After the blind curve, there is another U turn at Bharat Gas Plant at National High Way-44. Heavy vehicles run with high speed on the road. To take ‘U’ turn, the drivers have to get down on to the soil road and then turn his vehicle or else there is no way of turning his vehicle.

This is one aspect of heavy vehicles coming from ORR and going towards Hyderabad. The other aspect is the motorists, tractor and car drivers too have to undergo acid test at this juncture.

Recently, one Neeli ChinnaEeranna who happened to be a canteen owner in Bharat Gas Plant died while crossing the road. His motor bike had a skid and he has to come under the tyres of the opposite vehicle.

B Hari Krishna, a resident of Veldurthy and a frequent traveller to Kurnool speaking to The Hans India said, the ‘U’ turn is a life threatening one and is a danger spot.

He also blamed the police department personnel, who stay under the bridge of ORR and observing the incidents without controlling them. He said the department is organising several road safety awareness programmes but is failing to set up sign boards at the National High Ways.
