Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy has said that the government is committed for the welfare of the physically challenged people.  Krishna Murthy participated as a chief guest at International Disabled Day celebrations organised at Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) grounds near Bellary Chowrastha on Sunday.

Addressing the meeting on the occasion, he said that the government has introduced a budget with Rs.92.66 crores this fiscal year for the welfare of physically challenged people. Several developmental works have been taken benefitting 11, 03,789 people.

He said government spends Rs.87.6 lakhs per annum for each student pursuing 1 to 10th class and Rs.178 lakhs each for the students per annum pursuing Intermediate and higher education. Apart from educational assistance, Rs.22.82 crores was also spent towards rehabilitation and wedding gifts. Even 1185 physically handicapped people are facilitated with job opportunities, he stated.

He further said that the houses would be constructed to all physically handicapped people and their problems would be solved if any after bringing to the notice of the Chief Minister. He also said that the government is planning to sanction battery run wheel chairs and three-wheeler motor cycles with a cost of Rs.20 crores.

Minister of SERP, Women Empowerment, and Child Welfare, Disabled and Senior Citizens Welfare department, Paritala Suneetha said, `government is initiating steps to ensure the benefits are reached to each and every physically disabled person in the State. Due to South Koreas tour schedule, Chief Minister could not attend the meeting.’

She said necessary steps are afoot to set up a sensory park with a cost of Rs.6.49 crores in the district. The pension of the physically disabled persons has been enhanced to Rs.1500 from Rs.500. Kurnool MP, Butta Renuka has said that it is very happy to celebrate the disabled day celebrations at Kurnool after a span of 30 years.

She appealed the State government to implement the provisions introduced by the central government in disabled rights act 2016. Rajya Sabha Member, TG Venkatesh said that no government has implemented the pension scheme which is being implemented by the State government.

District Collector, S Sathyaarayana has said that around 57 disabled persons are going to be provided with jobs after conducting DSC. Several activities pertaining to disabled have been taken under MP lad funds.

The government is facilitating with job opportunities to one of the married couple, said the Commissioner KRBHN Chakravarthy. Gonuguntla Koteshwara rao, APSIDC Chairman, KE Prabhakar, KUDA Chairman, Somi Shetty Venkatesharulu and other participated in the meeting.
