Kadapa: Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu will be participating in centenary celebrations of the Annie Besant Municipal High School in Proddatur town on Friday. District officials made elaborate arrangements for the Vice-President’s visit.
The school played a crucial role in providing education to kids affected by faction feuds and from poorer sections when the literacy rate was only 4 per cent in the district. Several students, who have passed out from Annie Besant School, have become bureaucrats, politicians and professionals.
The school was set up in Proddatur town in 1905 and got temporary recognition in 1907. The first batch of SSC had passed out in 1912. It stood as role model for providing quality education to lakhs of students since its inception.
As students were migrating to Madanapalle in Chittoor district for higher studies, Annie Besant had merged her Theosophical Society with municipal school of Proddatur for facilitating higher education to SSC passed out students.
