Tirupati: The speakers at Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers second district convention held here on Tuesday called for agitation to find a solution to their problems and protection of their rights. ASHA Workers Union State Secretary Santhi said that the plight of ASHA workers is deplorable in the State even though they were extending their services without minimum wages and job security.

While Telangana government is giving them Rs 6,000 per month, in AP they were not getting even Rs 100 per day and she demanded the government to release arrears pending since 2012. She sought better remuneration for ASHA workers, who are participating in various surveys and the eligible workers should be promoted as ANMs.

CPI district secretary A Rama Naidu warned that the agitation will be intensified if the problems are not resolved immediately. Sramika Mahila Forum state secretary Sailaja has demanded for implementing insurance scheme to ASHA workers and incentives should be given to them soon after they admit any pregnant woman in the hospital.

AITUC district president P Murali asked for house sites to all ASHA workers as per GO No 7. AP Mahila Samakhya state president Jayalakshmi, K Radhakrishna, ND Ravi, Kodandam, Chinna Ellappa, Sujatha,Chinnamma and others participated.
