Srikakulam: Dispute among villagers led to stoppage of last rites of a woman for some time. The incident took place at Innisupeta village in Itchapuram mandal on Thursday.

According to sources from the village and police, Dungu Damayanthi and Isuru Purusottam did not give their lands to a road in the village earlier. In this backdrop, the rest of the villagers ostracised them since then.

On Thursday, an old woman Dungu Yerramma (65) of the samevillage died of ill health where Dungu Damayanthi and Isuru Purusottam attended to pay last respects.

But the villagers objected to their presence and stopped last rites till they left. Meanwhile, nephew of the deceased Batchu Koteswara Rao tried to convince the villagers and tried to record the episode on his cell phone for which villagers opposed and attacked him.

Unable to bear humiliation, Koteswara Rao lodged a complaint with the police. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) M Nagarjuna registered a case based on a complaint.
