Auto-chlorination to increase water purity

Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar said that auto-chlorination system would be implemented in 1,700 drinking water schemes in the district within three months for protection of public health on Friday.

The Collector conducted a review meeting with Panchayat officials at Collectorate and reviewed sanitation, Mee Seva, LED Bulbs installation programmes.

Addressing the meeting, he said that as part of the auto-chlorination system, liquid chlorine would be used for the water schemes to increase water purity. The Collector said that an alum treatment plant would be established in the delta area with a cost of Rs 900 crore in Peda Amiram village in Kalla mandal. 

Street lighting would be replaced with LED bulbs in 909 Grama Panchayats. He directed the officials to install LED bulbs over a 900 km stretch within 60 days. The APEDCL had already provided the material for a 190 kms stretch and the remaining material would soon be given to the district.

The Collector directed the officials to take up solid waste management in Gram panchayats as part of a complete sanitation drive. Instructions had been given to construct the necessary sheds. 

The subsidised amount for 1,600 garbage-collection vehicles under the SC, BC Corporations would be sanctioned to the beneficiaries. He directed officials to appoint the vehicle owner as green ambassador in the respective villages. “The solid waste management maintenance, dumping yard construction and other works should be completed by March,” he said.

Grama Panchayat meetings in panchayat offices had their respective modules prepared to educate the Panchayat officials. He firmly said that the members who attend the meeting should use biometric to mark their presence. The construction of the new Grama Panchayat buildings are said to be done by Pongal next year.

District Panchayat Officer Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, APEDCL SE Ch Satyanarayana Reddy, Divisional Panchayat Officers Chinna Rao, K Ammaji, M Ramakrishna and Mallikarjun attended the meeting.
