Visakhapatnam: The first day of the international Ed-Tech conference Transforming Education Conference for Humanity (TECH) began with the announcement of a strategic partnership between the Education Ministry of the Andhra Pradesh government, the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board and the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) to develop the State into a hub of Games for Learning.

Highlights:

  • Govt inks a pact with UNESCO (MGIEP)
  • The agreement is in line with Vision-2029 framework of Chief Miniter N Chandrababu Naidu
  • The new concept of Gaming for Learning is expected to improve the learning process of students
  • It is also intended to bridge the gap for students with learning differences

The partnership is in line with the Vision 2029 framework of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, which consists of six transformational areas, namely, human development, inclusive growth, globally competitive economy, knowledge-based economy, sustainability, and governance. The Chief Minister strongly believes that if technological advancements and modernised methodologies of education come to the State the youth will be empowered to reach their full potential.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh’s emphasis on education in achieving the Vision 2029 target is amplified with this collaboration with UNESCO’s category 1 institute in the Asia Pacific Region that has a specific mandate of developing education for the 21st century focusing on empathy, mindfulness and critical inquiry. MGIEP will bring to the partnership its expertise on digital pedagogies that foster peace and sustainable development.

“Using games for learning may be a relatively new concept but through this one can improve the learning process of the students and games are also an effective method of assessment as students can learn at their own pace,” said Dr Anantha Duraiappah, Director UNESCO MGIEP at the signing of the MoU.

Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board CEO J Krishna Kishore remarked, “Our Chief Minister envisions Andhra Pradesh as a future Knowledge Hub and to achieve this goal, education in AP is being revolutionised. UNESCO MGIEP and APEDB have shared interest and signing this MoU for partnership, we will together establish a Gaming for Learning Hub with the hope of bridging the gaps for students with learning differences.”

Multi-stakeholders from the world of education, technology and transformative digital pedagogies have already shown an interest in the Gaming Hub announced on Saturday and met with CM Chandrababu Naidu after the signing of the MoU to discuss the initiative in greater detail.
