Collector releases water for rabi

Srikakulam: District Collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy released water for rabi crops from Madduvalasa Reservoir on Saturday. While superintending engineer TV Seshagiri Rao released water from Thotapalli Project.
At present rabi crops are being cultivated in 94,000 acres across the district and Madduvalasa water will be sufficient for 24,778 acres during rabi season and Thotapalli water will cover another 56,812 acres, said Collector. He expressed hope that cultivation of crops during rabi season would be increased up to five lakh acres in future.
Madduvalasa executive engineer DS Pradeep, joint director for agriculture G Rama Rao, irrigation and agriculture officials were present.
