Atmakuru: After an eight-hour operation which was described as Operation Tiger Capturing, the forest officials captured two young female tigers – one alive and the other dead – on Saturday. In fact, three tigers strayed into Velugodu forest range and the Nallamala forests. But there was no specific information on how many tigers strayed into human habitats.

For the past four days, they were on the prowl frightening people living in villages on the fringes of the forest. First, they were spotted in a red gram field. Around 7.30 am on Saturday, two tigers were spotted in a mango garden near the forest.

Atmakuru Divisional Forest officer Selvam, who launched an operation to capture them, deployed six sharp shooters. They were supported by a drone which scanned the forest ranges to give the shooters about the movements of the tigers. Nine guns were used. As a result, one of the tigers was caught alive, while the other died.

The captured tiger was sent to zoo in Tirupati. The fate of another tiger, believed to the mother of the two young tigers, was not yet known. How the tigers could have been separated from the mother was shrouded in a mystery. Whether the mother tiger is unwell? Or did it become the victim of poachers is not known. The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests inspected the tigers on Saturday night.
