Progressive Front wins majority
The Progressive Front panel, which was supported by the Left parties and its affiliated trade unions, won six Managing Committee members out of 11 in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Municipal Employees Cooperative Credit Society.

The elections were held between the two panels at Dakshina Murthy VMC High school, Hanumanpet, here on Sunday. Suspense continued over the verdict of the polls till the end of counting in the evening as the two sides vigorously canvassed in the elections.
The Eshwar panel, which has been in power for the last 15 years, won only five Managing Committee members posts in the polls. The rival panel Progressive Front got six committee members posts. Consequently, it will get the chairman post.
The two sides campaigned vigorously for the last two weeks for the prestigious polls. The VMC Employees Cooperative Society is one of the oldest cooperative societies in the city with history of several decades.
The elected panel will be in power for five years till 2022. Teacher Unions are divided into two groups supporting the two sides. INTUC, TNTUC, YSRTF, Pandit Parishad and other unions supported Eswar panel. Progressive panel was supported by STU, UTF and other trade unions the CITU and AITUC.
The VMC employees working in various departments and teachers made a beeline to the VMC School in Hanumanpet to cast their votes since morning. The polling began at 7 am and ended at 2 pm. Later, counting began around 3 pm and results were declared in the night.
The Left parties, who were badly defeated in the VMC and Assembly polls for the last few years, got relief with the victory of Progressive Front panel in the polls held on Sunday.
