Supply of Godavari water to Yeleru reservoir halted
Supply of Godavari water to Yeleru reservoir from Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme (PPLIS) was stopped as the water level in the river was reduced to 13.07 metres as against 14 metres. Water can be lifted only if the water table is 14 metres or more than that.

Water Resources Department (WRD) so far supplied 1.05 tmc ft of water to Yeleru reservoir as against of 10 tmc ft water in this kharif season. Because of land acquisition problem in Jaggampeta and Purushottapatnam areas, laying of pipeline works started in the month of June. Because of this, only two motors were fixed and 700 cusecs of water was released to Yeleru reservoir through the canals of Pushakara Lift Irrigation Scheme.
According to WRD resources, the pipeline works geared up and so far 28 km length of pipelines were laid as against total length of 50 km.
The government initiated the lift irrigation scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 1,638 crore aimed to release Godavari water to Yeleru reservoir to supply the same to Visakhapatnam and to cater to the needs of 60,000 acres of ayacut under Yeleru reservoir.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation stone for the lift irrigation scheme in Pithapuram on January 5 and released water during June through Pushakara Lift Irrigation scheme canals.
Two pumps were fixed at the time of inauguration of the lift scheme. Pump house works will be completed by the end of February 2018 and from July 2018, all the 10 motors will start functioning to supply 3,500 cusecs of water to Yeleru reservoir the sources added.
