Tirupati: Minister for civil aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju said India stood at in third place after developed countries US, UK in domestic flight operations.
The minister flagged off the low cost airliner IndiGo’s flight services from Tirupati to Hyderabad and Bengaluru at Tirupati airport on Sunday morning along with IndiGo president Aditya Gosh. He later bought a ticket and went to Hyderabad in the same flight as a passenger. Speaking to the media on the occasion, Ashok Gajapathi Raju said in the 70 years after the Independence, the successive Congress governments could provide air connectivity to only 75 places in the country while the BJP-led NDA government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided air connectivity to 80 new places across the country in a span of just four years.
“Currently, our goal is to build airports up to regional level. Under the regional air connectivity drive, the civil aviation ministry is taking up many initiatives,” he said.
He informed that IndiGo flights would operate every day at 10.50 am, 5.20 pm, 8.55 pm from Tirupati to Hyderabad, in return journey flights depart there to Tirupati at 6.25 am, 12.40 pm, 7.10 pm. Similarly, from Tirupati to Bengaluru, flights are available at 8.10 am and 2.25 pm, in return journey flights available from Bengaluru at 9.30 am and 3.40 pm.
IndiGo Airlines president Aditya Gosh said that Indigo airlines has been operating more than 1,000 domestic and international flights connecting 47 places.
He said they were going to launch services from Rajamahendravaram too in a week time and from Vijayawada in March. Currently, IndiGo flight charges from Tirupati to Bengaluru Rs 1,500, to Hyderabad Rs 3,500, he added.
Tirupati MP Varaprasad requested to the civil aviation minister to ensure international service from Tirupati Airport as soon as possible as many people from Rayalaseema region have been working in Dubai and Singapore.
IndiGo president Aditya Gosh responded to Tirupati MP’s request and intimated that soon international services also will start by the IndiGo from Tirupati airport as per the wish of the this region’s people. Tirupati airport director H Pulla said that from next summer everyday 44 flight services will be available from here to other places for the convenience of the commuters.
Chittoor MP N Siva Prasad and MLC Muddukrishnama Naidu, TUDA chairman Narasimha Yadav, Sub-Collector Nishanth Kumar, IndiGo Tirupati manager V Bajaj were participated in the inauguration of new flight services.
