Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly instructed the Commissioner of the Chittoor Municipal Corporation not to go ahead with the proposed demolition of I Town Police Station building, according to the official sources.

It is learnt that the Chief Minister has also sought an explanation from the officials concerned for not constructing the permanent building to the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) branch here as it was already demolished a year ago and asked authorities why no measures were taken so far to construct a new building for the IRCS branch.
He further reportedly instructed the officials not to demolish the monumental police station building without proper planning and
action. Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Deputy Mayor M Subramanyam has admitted that there was a proposal to demolish the building of the I Town Police Station. “While I was acting as Chittoor Mayor in-charge, the civic body had taken a decision to demolish the police station building and construct a statue island in the same site.
The proposal was kept in pending as some of the TDP leaders have opposed the move,” he stated. Meanwhile, works for the construction of new building for I Town Police Station were going on with the initiative of the District Superintendent of Police (SP). Hence, it was decided to demolish the police station building which is likely to be shifted shortly to the new one once it was completed.
The Deputy Mayor further said that the Chief Minister was not interested in the proposal of demolishing the police station building. He said that the TDP corporators like Dayaram and others have opposed the move.
Subramanyam made it clear that Chittoor MLA D A Satyaprabha is keen to develop the city as role model. It may be mentioned here that the Chandrababu was supposed to inaugurate the new building for the I Town Police Station during his recent visit to Naravaripalle but he did not turn up due to different opinions over the proposed demolition of the police station building.
