Tirupati: CPI national secretary K Narayana regretted that education has turned into a corporate business following commercialisation of education.

He pointed out that the poor have not been able to provide quality education to their children and held both Central and State governments responsible for the situation.

Narayana inaugurated the 70th foundation day celebrations of the State Teachers Union (STU) here on Friday. He said protection of government education sector was in the hands of teachers. They should act with vigil against the privatisation of education.

Referring to development of Telugu States, Narayana said NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar gave a provocative statement. He opined that the statement led to creation of differences between the people of the two States.

Later, Teachers MLC Katti Narasimha Reddy pointed out that the STU organised several agitations on teachers’ problems. Following the agitations, teachers are enjoying benefits as per the service rules.

He called upon teachers to be cautious as government is trying to dismantle the education system on the pretext of bringing about reforms. He also appealed to teachers to work hard strengthen the education system in the government sector.

STU leaders conducted a seminar on contributory pension scheme on the occasion and organised a rally from PLR convention hall to Laksmipuram circle.

Earlier, CPI national secretary Narayana inaugurated the new STU building (office) at Biragipatteda. STU state general secretary Joseph Sudeer Babu, CPI leaders Harinath Reddy, Rama Naidu, Ganta Mohan, Sanyasi Rao and Chdalavada Education Trust chairperson C Sucharitha participated.
