Visakhapatnam: Gopalpatnam police in the city booked POCSO Act against an army officer for allegedly molesting an 11-year old girl on Friday. Though the incident took place on January 29, but it came to light after girl’s father lodged a complaint with police on Friday.

According to police, 32-year-old army officer Ganesh of Gopalpatnam area on January 29 took the girl to a room and allegedly misbehaved with her. When the girl raised an alarm, locals rushed to her rescue.

On seeing the people, he fled the spot. Police said that on Friday, they came to know about the incident through some reliable sources and when enquired the victim’s family, they, disclosed about the incident.

The girl's father informed the police that he did not approach police due to fear of social stigma. More details are yet to be ascertained. Police said that they would write a letter to the Indian Army for further investigation.
