Innovation key to nation’s development: IISc Prof

Discipline, dedicated teaching staff and quality teaching are the hall marks of the engineering college. Hundreds of students had passed out of the college with distinction bringing laurels to the college which was graduated as university in its long academic journey, stated JNTU-A Vice-Chancellor Prof Srinivasa Kumar.
Addressing a colourful function at the 9th convocation attended by a galaxy of teaching staff and thousands of students from across the 500 odd engineering colleges spread in the four Rayalaseema districts and Nellore district here on Monday, the Vice-Chancellor had lauded the students, particularly the gold medalists for bringing laurels to the age-old institution.
He said that the college is in the forefront by adhering to academic calendars including holding of examinations, declaration of results and issuing of certificates etc. The university has 21,801 students, who have graduated out of its affiliated colleges.
It has academic tie-up with universities abroad and is offering courses in VLIC design and embedded systems. It is also nearing completion of its modern engineering college at Kalikiri at a cost of Rs 350 crore which will be readied for inauguration in March by the Chief Minister. Engineering campuses in Pulivendula, Kadapa district and Kalikiri in Nellore district are autonomous institutions of repute.
The state government had given Rs 13 crore for setting up an incubation centre for encouraging students to become entrepreneurs and to set up industries. The university was also instrumental in the establishment of Siemens Centre of Excellence with an investment of Rs 200 crore in the local campus.
JNTUA is also executing a solar project in its campus to bring down its huge power bills. Cultural programmes were also organised to mark the occasion. Registrar Krishnaiah and other varsity officials were present.
