Amaravati: In a major initiative to encourage the State towards energy efficiency, the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs under the Union Ministry of Power, has signed Memorandum of Understanding (4 MoUs) with the State government announcing an investment of Rs 3,730 crore.
Highlights:
- It will supply 10,000 electric cars to the State, 17 lakh smart energy meters, establish small solar PV-based power projects
- MoUs signed in the CII Partnership Summit
The MoUs entail supply of 10,000 electric cars and 4,000 chargers to various departments of the State government through NREDCAP. Besides, it will supply around 17 lakh smart energy meters to APEPDCL and APSPDCL and establish small solar PV-based power projects (APSPDCL) in phases.
The MoUs were signed at the CII Partneship Summit in Visakhapatnam on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu along with Principal Secretary to Energy department Ajay Jain, CMD of APTransco K Vijayanand, EESL MD Saurabh Kumar, CMD of APSPDCL M M Nayak, CMD of APEPDCL H Y Dora and NREDCAP MD M Kamalakar Babu.
“Promoting e-mobility, energy efficiency and renewable energy, the four projects will create over 15,000 jobs and save costs up to Rs 3,185 crore,” State Energy Conservation Mission chief executive officer A Chandrasekhar Reddy said.
The EESL director lauded the State government as a frontrunner in adopting advanced, energy-efficiency and renewable energy solutions. “We are appreciating AP for adopting future-ready technology solutions like smart meters and e-vehicles. We also urge other States to come forward and join this movement for a truly energy efficient India,” he said.
According to the MoU with NREDCAP, the EESL will supply 10,000 electric vehicles to government departments on lease or outright purchase to replace the existing petrol and diesel vehicles.
It will also install 4,000 chargers at State government offices. The EESL has already started the process of procurement of E-Vehicles and chargers.
Under the MoU with the APSPDCL, small solar PV-based power projects will be established in two phases. The first phase entails establishment of a 150-MW plant with an investment of Rs 650 crore. The second phase includes a 300-MW project with an investment of Rs 1,300 crore.
Besides, 17 lakh smart energy meters to both the DISCOMs will be supplied by EESL as per MoU with the APEPDCL. The project will have a sustainable impact by increasing DISCOM’s revenues through increased billing efficiency and reduction in operation and maintenance cost.
