Vijayawada: District Collector B Lakshmikantham participated in the Special Open Court to solve child labour cases. The Collector suggested to the parents of the child labour not to send their children to work , but send to school.

Hearing was held by the Special Open Court organised by the labour department at the Sub-Collector’s office here on Thursday. About 113 cases were solved across the district. Cases were filed against the owners by the labour department. The open court collected the difference amount from the owner and handed over to the child in the form of demand draft.

Clear bio-data was obtained from the child and counselling was held. The parents of children parents were told to send them to school. Special counselling was given to parents who regularly send their children to work. A few children joined National Child Labour Project (NCLP) hostel and others sought time to take decision.

Earlier, a special drive has been undertaken by the labour department with the help of 1098 Childline, NCLP and voluntary organisations across the district on shops, establishment and industries for the last 15 days. In all, 113 cases were identified.

Labour department deputy commissioner PVS Subrahmanyam, assistant commissioner M Satyanarayana, NCLP project director D Anjaneya Reddy, 1098 Child Line teams were present.
