Thousands of commuters and vehicles were stranded on the national highway on Thursday with the blocking highways by the opposition. Except BJP all the political parties participated in the National Highway blockade demanding that the Central government accord Special Category Status and railway zone Visakhapatnam as headquarters.

With the call given by the opposition parties, the leaders of the Congress, YSR Congress, CPM, CPI, North Andhra Porata Samithi and other allied agencies participated in the agitation and blocked the roads. Hundreds of women activists were present in the agitation and raised slogans for Special Category Status to the state.

However, considering the Class X final examinations, the agitators blocked the roads after completion of the examination. The agitators blocked the roads at various locations, including Anakapalle, Lankellapalem, NAD Cross Roads, Akkayapalem, Seetammadhara, Maddilapalem, Isukatotha,Madhurwada, Gajuwaka, Anandapuram and Tagarapuvalasa. The agitators formed human chains, played games and slept on the roads.

However, no untoward incident was reported. After a two-hour long blockade, the agitators voluntarily left the locations. With this blockade, the police diverted the traffic at various locations which caused a trouble to the commuters in the city.

Srikakulam: All political parties except BJP staged massive protests across the district on Thursday against the NDA government for meting out step-motherly treatment towards the state. TDP leaders GA Suryanarayana, M Venkatesh and other leaders staged a protest at Seven Roads Junction and paid tributes to NTR by garlanding his statute. They wore black badges and raised slogans against the NDA government for neglecting assurances made by the BJP during the division of the state.

YSRCP, CPM and CPI leaders launched agitations on the National Highway (NH-16) at Ranastalam, Chilakapalem, Peddapadu, Narasannapeta, Tekkali and other parts. YSRCP leaders, T Sitaram, D Prasada Rao, D Krishna Das, R Shanthi and others launched agitations all along the NH-16. Speaking on the occasion, the party leaders said that SCS will be possible only with YSRCP. Congress leaders K Kruparani, Dola Jangan, Ch Sateesh and others took out rallies and staged protests across the district.

Vizianagaram: The YSR Congress Party and Left parties staged a protest against the Union government for not according Special Category Status to the state. The leaders of both the parties went to Mayuri Junction and blocked the Vizianagaram-Raipur National Highway.

They alleged that TDP and BJP betrayed the people by not fulfilling the poll promises. Now, the people realised the betrayal and waiting for right time to teach a lesson to them. Meanwhile, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Dr S Swathirani said that TDP severed ties with the NDA government and fighting for the welfare of the people.
