He delivered a lecture on ‘Promoting Democratic Values among Students’ organised by Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) in association with GITAM School of Law.

Addressing the students here on Friday at GITAM University School of Law, he stressed the importance of the understanding of the word ‘democracy’ by students. With the aid of several theories and examples, he explained the distinction between ‘Good government’ and ‘Good governance’.

He highlighted the importance of imbibing democratic values among students. Kumar stressed upon the concept of values and the different kind of values that are relevant for the setting up of a good democracy. Elaborating, he touched upon the requirement and the distinction between the terms ‘etiquette’ and ‘manner’.

He took the students down the memory lane to the freedom struggle and explained about the role played by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and Ambedkar in shaping up democracy. He briefed the role of the legal community in shaping up today’s governance and thereby delved into the issue of the requirement of the judiciary to be independent, autonomous and confident. GITAM School of Law Director Prof Y Satyanarayana presided over the programme.
