Kakinada: JNTU principal Prof GVR Prasada Raju has said the world will face a severe water crisis by 2050 and nearly three billion people would be affected with this crisis.
He participated as chief guest at World Water Day celebrations held at the JNTU Civil Engineering Seminar Hall here.

He informed that water was the key for the survival of the mankind and 1.8 billion people around the world had been drinking contaminated water every day.

He explained that every person needs 20 litres of water every day. Because of lack of proper purification methods, people had been facing the shortage of water around the world, particularly the third world countries. He said that they were conducting awareness programmes to conserve the water resources in the state.

Later, he distributed prizes to the winners who participated in the World Water Day competitions at the JNTU.

Foreign University Relations director Prof V Srinivasulu, Head of Civil Engineering Dr Swarupa Rani and Games and Sports Administration director Abbayya also took part in the ceremony.
