Provide jobs to stop migration

Kurnool: District Collector S Satyanarayana instructed the District Water Management Agency (DWMA) Project Director (PO) and its APOs to create more jobs to the labourers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to prevent largescale migration this summer.

He inspected the ongoing NREGS works at Kodumur and Veldurthy mandals here on Friday. He paid a visit to Krishnapuram village in Kodumur mandal and inspected the dugout ponds along with DWMA PD Venkata Subbaiah.

The Collector interacted with the daily wage workers and suggested them to attend the work by 6 am to get more work for earning more money. On the occasion, some of the labourers complained to him that they were not paid wages for the last four months.

Responding to their complaint, he assured them of depositing the amount within a period of four days as the government has sanctioned Rs 320 crore. Even, the labourers urged the District Collector not to deposit cash in their bank account, instead, told him to deposit in their post office accounts. He told the PO to open post office accounts.

He directed the PO to provide shade nets, drinking water, and first aid kits. He expressed dissatisfaction over the poor progress of works. He also visited Veldurthy and inspected the MGNREGS works. During his visit, the villagers complained of acute water scarcity.

They said that they were getting water once in eight days. He immediately called Rural Water Supply (RWS) Superintending Engineer and advised him to sort out the problem without any delay.

Satyanarayana also suggested to supply water to them through tankers to tide over the crisis. DWMA PD was told to arrange butter milk to the labourers. Additional PO Nageshwara Rao, Kodumur and Veldurthy Tahsildars, MPDOs and others accompanied the District Collector.
