Tirupati: The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has granted special status to temple city-based Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP), a deemed university, under category-I of higher educational institutions.

In an informal meeting with teaching and non-teaching staff held at Vidyapeetha here on Friday, Vidyapeetha Vice-Chancellor Prof V Muralidhara Sharma said the RSVP was included in the list of higher educational institutions which was announced by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The RSVP with a NAAC grade of A+ ranks third among the central universities and also third among the deemed universities all over India. The Vidyapeetha is the only Sanskrit varsity which figured in the list, he averred. By getting the special status, the RSVP can start its own courses without approval of UGC and can admit foreign students.
