Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday began his day-long hunger strike in Amaravati at 7 am as a protest for the demand of special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Coinciding with his birthday, the hunger strike is termed as Dharma Porata Deeksha (Struggle for Justice) and will end at 7 pm.

Chandrababu has chosen the grounds in front of Acharya Nagarjuna University at Guntur for his protest and nearly one lakh people are likely to join him in his Deeksha today.

The strike comes in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s one-day long fast on April 12 as a protest against the recent washout of the budget session of Parliament allegedly caused by the Opposition parties.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president’s move is to bring notice towards the injustice meted out to AP by the NDA government.

All the cabinet colleagues, MPs, MLAs and MLCs and other party functionaries would be seen alongside Chandrababu taking part in the Deeksha. Also, party leaders will be observing fast in their respective districts.

Speaking in this regard, the Chief Minister said that they are protesting regarding the betrayal of faith by the Prime Minister and are demanding the implementation of the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

He made an appeal to all sections of people to support him in the struggle for justice urging for a debate across the country on the injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh.
