Former MLA and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, Anam Vivekananda Reddy passed away early on Wednesday morning at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).

He was undergoing treatment in Hyderabad for the last one month with several health issues mainly lungs ailment. However, his condition deteriorated in the last few days after which he was put on the ventilator. According to the reports, the last rites will be held tomorrow in his native place Nellore.

Several political leaders including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his deep condolences over his death.

Considered a strongman in Nellore politics, Anam Vivekananda Reddy pursued his BA from VR College. He was a long-time Congressman and was elected three times to the state Assembly under united Andhra Pradesh in 1999, 2004 and 2009.

Following the bifurcation, he left Congress and joined the Telugu Desam Party. Born in Nellore, he is the nephew of the Late Anam Chenchu Subba Reddy who has a great following in Nellore. His brother Anam Ramanarayana Reddy served as a Minister during the YS Rajasekhara Reddy, K Rosaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy rule in united Andhra Pradesh.

His father Anam Venkata Reddy also was a part of politics. Both the brothers joined the TDP from the Congress in January 2016 in the presence of Chandrababu.

The former legislator was known for his look sporting dark shades. His carefree attitude even made international news on one occasion when he donned a saree, wore bangles and lipstick ‘for fun’ after inaugurating a crafts bazaar in Nellore in 2012 and posed for the cameras.
