Ongole: The SC and ST leaders in the state have been conducting a bus yatra, demanding that the government review Supreme Court remarks made on the SC/ST prevention of atrocities act and strengthen it further.

Announcing this, GV Sriraj, son of former MP GV Harsha Kumar along with G Raj Vimal, Billa Chennaiah, Vijendra Prasad and others announced that the bus yatra will reach Ongole on April 29 and a discussion will be held with the local leaders on measures to be taken to strengthen the act.

Sriraj said that after the Supreme Court bench made certain changes in the SC/ST atrocities prevention act, on March 23 in the name of the act being misused, an uproar was emerged across the country. He said that the government has killed 11 people in the protests on April 11 during national bandh.

So, a joint forum of SC/STs was formed in the name of SC/ST Aikya Vedika with the prominent leaders in the state like GV Harsha Kumar, Chinta Mohan, JD Seelam, Jelli Wilson, leaders from Mala Mahanadu, Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti and ST leaders and a discussion was held on April 17 in Vijayawada, he said.

As per the decision taken in the meeting, Sriraj said, a team with the leaders from Malas, Madigas and STs were touring all districts in the state to educate the stakeholders about the impact of the changes made by the Supreme Court and a meeting would be held locally to discuss the future plan.

The bus yatra with the leaders would reach Ongole on April 29, announced Sriraj, and requested the local SCs and STs to attend the meeting to show their strength.
