The Village Panchayat workers demanded that the government provide 30 percent reservation in the allotment of posts of the village secretaries. They said that there were several workers seeking promotions who had completed their graduation and post-graduation studies across the state.

D Venkatramaiah who led the agitation, said about 20,000 workers were serving the people across the state and the Panchayat workers were the real soldiers of the Swachh Bharat scheme to keep the villages clean, green and hygienic. He said if the government does not respond to their demands, they would intensify their strike and continue an indefinite strike across the state.
