Ongole: The Ongole Municipal Corporation has taken initiative to teach Telugu literature, its importance and introduce Telugu stalwarts to the present generation kids by a special programme Telugu Sahiti Bala.

Municipal Commissioner Sankranti Venkatakrishna inaugurated a 20-day programme at PVR Boys High School here on Friday. He said that though the children are studying English medium, it is important for them to know our rich heritage and history.

He said that it is the responsibility of the parents to introduce the Telugu heritage to the children and let them know about Telugu people from Nannaya to C Narayana Reddy.

With the concept to teach the children about Telugu heritage, the municipal corporation has designed a programme in the name of Telugu Sahiti Bala, explained Venkata Krishna.

He said that they compiled 100 poems and appointed Telugu teachers and poets to teach them to the children in Ongole. The teachers will take an hour class daily for 20 days and teach five poems and padyams every day to the children at Telugu Sahiti Bala programme.

The Commissioner announced that the programme will be conducted at PVR Boys High School, DRRM High School, Balaji Nagar Municipal High School at Agraharam Railway gate up to June 5. He announced that the OMC will award a certificate to the children after they successfully complete the programme and asked the parents to send their children to the programme.
