Vijayawada: Former chief secretary I Y R Krishna Rao alleged that former chief priest of TTD Ramana Deekshitulu had been sacked because he was acting as a whistle blower and alerting the TDP about the irregularities being committed at Tirumala.

Krishna Rao was the chief guest at a protest meeting organised by Brahmana Ikya Vedika at a private function hall here on Monday. Representatives of various Brahmin organisations, priests and Archakas participated in the meeting.

Addressing on the occasion, the former chief secretary said the TDP government was adopting anti-Brahmin policies. He alleged that though Ramana Deekshitulu was sacked on the pretext of age, the real motive was to silence him as he was objecting to violation of traditions at Tirumala.

He said the GO 76, which is beneficial to priests in terms of pay, was revised during the regime of Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy but not passed by the present TDP government. “I have told Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu many times to spend some time to know about the GO 76, but he ignored,” alleged Krishna Rao.

He said some decisions taken by the TDP government in 1986 had badly affected the livelihood of Archakas. He said the Archakas used to get some share in the revenue of the small temples but the TDP government had scrapped the system, he alleged.

“I was upset with the negligent attitude of the Chief Minister in the implementation of GO 76,” he said. Terming the TDP government “castiest”, he accused it of pursuing “anti-Brahmin” policies.

Bapatla MLA Kona Raghupati alleged that the TDP had not issued ticket to even one Brahmin candidate in the state. He recalled once upon a time about 15 Brahmin MLAs represented various constituencies in Assembly.

Former MLA Malladi Vishnu alleged that Brahmin properties were illegally grabbed by the TDP leaders. He condemned the sacking of chief priest Ramana Deekshitulu. He demanded the government reveal facts about the alleged tantrika puja conducted at the Durga temple.

He said that a committee set up by the government had confirmed that tantrika puja was performed at the Durga temple but the government is not revealing the findings to people. Brahmin leaders K Balaram, Jyosyula Anjaneya Somayajulu, J Krishna Prasad, Dronamraju Ravikumar, P Syalanath Prasad and other leaders, priests and Archakas spoke on the occasion.
