Turn children into good citizens: Lakshminarayana
On his second day tour of Prakasam district, retired additional D G P V V Lakshminarayana interacted with the tobacco growers, teachers and members of Lions Club here on Monday and shared his ideas on the happy farming, healthy society and ways to achieve them.

Lakshminarayana visited the tobacco auction centre in the morning and observed the process of auction using technology. He interacted with the farmers and noted down their grievances.
The farmers explained that the tobacco board announces the area of tobacco to be cultivated every year depending on the indent from the companies. But, the board has no power to see the companies purchase the total amount of tobacco they promised in the indent, they said.
They said that they require a mechanism to save them from losses through a tobacco growers fund. Lakshminarayana agreed that the farmers need minimum assured price from the government and a fund to cushion from losses and for extra investment on the crop.
In the afternoon, the former joint director of CBI interacted with the teachers and Lions Club members at Ranga Bhavan in Ongole. He said that the technology was spreading fast and the children should be saved from its adverse effect.
He asked the teachers to make the children good citizen than just marks’ scoring machines. He pointed that the children growing without moral values are committing sexual offences on infants also.
He opined that money was pouring in the politics and good people were struggling to receive a chance to serve the people. He said that a lot of reforms should be brought in the election system.
He wished that the flexi banners and other publicity material should be banned and the candidates should meet the public and explain their merits in debates with other candidates so that the voter could decide whom to elect. He said that would be the true meaning of democracy.
Lakshminarayana said that he was touring districts to meet the farmers and other locals to learn about their issues. He said that he completed tour of two districts already and planning to visit the remaining in two months and planning to prepare a report on what farmers require in the state.
He announced that he will take a decision about his future career only after two months. Depending on what he understood up to now, Lakshminarayana said that the farmers in the state can be saved by providing remunerative prices.
He suggested that cooperative farming, limiting extent of crop, reducing cost of expenditure and collective bargaining would help the farmers get a better price for their produce.
He suggested that the government establish a single window mechanism to provide all services to farmers similar to entrepreneurs now to help them save time and money. He said that a happy society would be possible only when the farmer is happy.
