Tirupati: If all goes well, an iconic flyover connecting the Ramanuja circle with Alipiri over RTC Bus Station will be in place soon. Apart from the flyover, the authorities are also planning two skywalks.

The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) is planning to build the flyover and skywalks in collaboration with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board and Chittoor district administration.

MCT Commissioner V Vijaya Rama Raju said that six-km-long Ramanuja Circle-Alipiri flyover will cost about Rs 200 crore. This proposal replaces the earlier one from the Market Yard (Thanapalli national highway cross) to Alipiri Junction (gateway of Tirumala) which will be nine-km-long.

The decision to construct the flyover and skywalks was taken in view of increasing vehicular traffic in the city. The bus station too will have access to the flyover as it flies over it and Kapila Thirtham Nandi so that buses from the bus station and vehicles in the area could use it to reach Alipiri in shortest possible time.

At present, every day more than 3000 vehicles with pilgrims go to Tirumala hill shrine negotiating through the city traffic. As traffic is heavy, it is not only taking time for the pilgrims to reach the temple but also is leading to pollution.

In addition to the flyover, the TTD is also simultaneously planning construction of two skywalks to the RTC Bust Station and Srinivasam complex from the railway station for the convenience of pilgrims.

The MCT Commissioner told The Hans India: “We are keen that this flyover would be in place sooner than later. It greatly relieves traffic congestion. The proposal will be through very soon."
