When his attention was drawn by this reporter on Wednesday over the issue, Dr Rao who is also nodal officer for East Godavari for H1 N1, clarified that some cases were identified in Kerala in south India. The virus did not spread beyond Kerala as of now, he said.
The spread of Nipah virus attained significance in the wake of reports of 16 deaths recently in Kerala.Dr Raghavendra Rao clarified that both bats and pigs were chief carriers of Nipah virus.
