Eluru /Bhimavaram: The Postal employees continued their indefinite strike in West Godavari district on Wednesday, demanding that the Centre implement the Kamalesh Chandra Committee recommendations for the Grameen Dak Seva (GDS) employees immediately.The employees went on indefinite strike in response to a call given by All India Postal Employees Associations JAC from Tuesday. Following the strike, all the post offices in the district were closed for the second day on Wednesday.
The employees held a protest in front of Bhimavaram Head Post Office and raised slogans asking the Centre to settle the long pending demands of the employees.
Ch Lenin Babu, Vice-President of All India Postal Employees Union (AIPEU) group-C Employees Association AP Circle addressing the protest, said that the GDS employees were extending services to rural people and postal department was the only one to extend services to the rural masses.
All India Postal Employees Union Group-C Association President GV Prasada Raju, Postmen and MTS Union President and Secretary B Venkanna Dora, S Prakasha Rao, All India Postal Employees Union, GDS President and Secretaries V Nageswara Rao, P YesuPrabhu participated in the protest.
In Eluru, the postal employees staged the protest at the Head Post Office in One-town area and wanted the Government to implement the Kamalesh Committee recommendations.
Meanwhile, Eluru Division Postal Superintendent SMSSV Prasad stated that due to the strike of the rural DAK Sevak Postal Employees Associations, the postal services were interrupted. Due to the staff scarcity, the postal services did not extend services completely.
However, in Eluru division, arrangements have been made to transit the speed-post covers and letters in Eluru Head Post Office and Jangareddigudem. He suggested the customers of postal accounts to utilise postal ATM Cards to withdraw money from other bank ATMs also.
