Tirupati: The elders after retirement should keep themselves busy by involving in various service activities even if it is smaller manner to keep them physically and mentally active and healthy, said Elders Clubs International Foundation (ECIF) Convener (AP and Telangana) Mandadi Krishna Reddy.

Participating at an elders meeting on the government’s present initiatives and measures required to be taken up for the elderly to ensure them peaceful and health life here on Wednesday, Reddy said that most of the elders after retirement after attaining sixty years tend to become inactive and mostly confining to their homes. This will not help them to keep mentally and physically fit.

They should utilise their leisure time to help people to come up in life or overcome their problems, he observed. Reddy said that national-level meeting of elders will be held in Hyderabad from June 16 to 18 to discuss the issues of elders and suggests the measures to be taken up for the betterment of elderly, who are one third of country’s population and will increase to 62 per cent by 2050. Retired Employees Association President M Balasubramanyam, Vice-President ML Gupta and others also spoke.
