Completion of pending projects demanded
The demand of farmers to complete the pending irrigation projects in Kurnool district is gaining momentum. In this connection, Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham (APRS) and All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) have organised a ‘Rythu Sadassu’ at Zilla Parishad Hall here on Thursday.
Kurnool: The demand of farmers to complete the pending irrigation projects in Kurnool district is gaining momentum. In this connection, Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham (APRS) and All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) have organised a ‘Rythu Sadassu’ at Zilla Parishad Hall here on Thursday.
AIKS Vice-President S Malla Reddy, retired engineer Subbarayudu, APRS district general secretary G Rama Krishna and others participated in the workshop.
Malla Reddy, who was the chief guest, in his address, said that they have chalked out a plan to organise a padayatra in the district from June 5 to 11. Four teams have been formed that would start their yatra from the western part of the district culminating at Kurnool, he added.
On June 12, a ‘maha dharna’ would be organised at the Collectorate with several farmers and supporters to highlight the injustice meted out to the district, he stated. “We will bring awareness among the people about the necessity of constructing irrigation projects,” he stated.
The western parts of Kurnool such as Alur, Pathikonda, Apari, Adoni, Mantralayam, Kodmur, Dhone and Yemmiganur are reeling with continuous drought, said Malla Reddy.
Retired engineer Subbarayudu said that if Vedavathi, Nagaradona and Gundrevula reservoirs were constructed, then Kurnool district would be free from droughts. These reservoirs would cater to the drinking and irrigation needs, said Subbarayudu.
CPM district secretary K Prabhakar Reddy and CPI district secretary K Jagannatham demanded the government to fill 106 ponds with the HNSS water immediately. The leaders also demanded the allocation of Rs 10,000 crore to the district. All these issues would be addressed during the padayatra, the Left leaders said.
