Tirupati: DGP M Malakondaiah has appreciated the efforts of central command control of the Tirupati Urban Police District (UPD) in achieving 1.23 crore views for its YouTube channel. The YouTube channel was officially started in 2015. Since then, the staff posted at central command control have been uploading CCTV footage videos of accidents, traffic violations and other criminal activities regularly to create awareness among the residents of temple city.

YouTube channel of no other city police wing in Andhra Pradesh has achieved views close or equal to the UPD. The main purpose of uploading the CCTV footage videos is to educate the people on traffic violations and to make residents know about visible policing round-the-clock on city roads. Another important aspect is 23,132 have subscribed to YouTube channel.

Till now, 784 videos were uploaded on the YouTube channel collected from 264 cameras located in the city. According to central command control in-charge DSP Sudhakar Reddy said the UPD has earned Rs 75,000 income from the YouTube channel. “We are using social media platform to educate the residents about the accidents and traffic violations,” he stated while appreciating the efforts of personnel posted at command control centre and support of Urban SP Abhishek Mohanty.
