Vijayawada: CPM demanded that the state government conduct a survey on kidney disease and conditions of patients in western part of Krishna district. CPM State Committee member Ch Babu Rao said that the people of 15 mandals have been suffering from kidney related problems.

Speaking to media persons, along with kidney patients, here on Saturday, he asked the government to take immediate action to solve the problem. He disclosed to the media with the details of the survey conducted by the members of his party. He wondered as to why the state government did not conduct a survey though it has wide network.

He said that the people in the age group of six onwards, including youth, were also suffering from kidney disease. He recalled that Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and Collector B Lakshmikantham had assured the patients of medical aid but no help was extended by the government so far.

He lamented that all the kidney disease affected villages are under the purview of Capital Region Development Authority. He said that nearly 1,270 people were affected from kidney related diseases. Most of the victims are from poorer sections, he said and added that some of the patients had spent Rs 2 lakh to Rs 20 lakh for treatment.

He asked the government to conduct a survey with experts of various walks of life. The CPM leader also asked the government to extend help to the needy people by June. The government should provide medicines free of cost and take steps to supply pure drinking water to the kidney affected villages.

The people in A Konduru, Gampalagudem, Tiruvuru, Vissannapet, Chatrai, Nuzvid, Musunuru, Mylavaram, G Konduru, Veerulapadu, Jagaiahpet, Nandigama, Chandarlapadu, Reddygudem and Agiripalli mandals are suffering from kidney problem, he said.

The CPM would conduct district wise agitation from July first week, if the government fails to solve the problem, he said. CPM West Krishna secretary DV Krishna was also present.
