Tirupati: Protesting the move to remove the 300 contract employees working in the TTD Luggage Centres, the employees under the banner of the TTD Contract Employees Union staged a dharna before the TTD Administrative Building here on Wednesday.

CITU district general secretary K Murali addressing the gathering said that the contract employees are working in the luggage centres for the last 15 years, but their employment is now being threatened with the change of contractor.

He demanded the TTD management to ensure security of job to the contract employees irrespective of change of contractors entrusted with the providing employees to work in the luggage counters.

He said the Contract Employees Union affiliated to the CITU will not remain a silent spectator even if one employee removed and warned that the CITU would intensify the stir if the TTD did not intervene and safeguard the employment of luggage centre employees.

Meanwhile, sources said the TTD authorities assured a delegation of union leaders that they would direct the contractor not to retrench any employee working in the luggage centres.
