Tirupati: AP Government has been embarking on a bigger mission to take the State ahead of other states in maintaining flawless sanitation.
Disclosing the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s aspirations and government initiatives in this regard at an awareness meeting with the MPDOs, DWAMA and other staff in Tirupati on Friday, the Secretary of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development B Ramanjaneyulu said that the State has already became Open Defecation Free (ODF) and looking forward to go beyond that stage with ‘ODF Plus’. Under ‘ODF Plus’ status, total sanitation will be achieved in terms of solid waste management and liquid waste management.
It was decided to announce the State as ‘ODF Plus’ by January 26, 2019 which will make it first in the country to do so. He was in all praise for District Collector PS Pradyumna for taking it a challenge to make the district as ODF plus by August 15 itself much ahead of the state deadline.
“Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu believed that if this is done in Chittoor, all other districts will follow it and state can become completely ODF plus before the stipulated date. Collector Pradyumna has already made a record by completing 2.72 lakh individual toilets before March 31, 2018 and stood first in the country. We extend all cooperation to the district administration in achieving the target”, he assured.
He said that steps will be taken to provide monthly remuneration to ‘Green Ambassadors’ who are involved in collecting solid waste from every house in villages. Funds for constructing solid waste management sheds in villages called ‘Brindavanam’ will be paid within 24 hours of their completion. The Secretary also said that Vermi-compost that will be produced from ‘Brindavanam’ has to be sold at Rs.11 per kg and 50 per cent profits will go to farmers and the remaining will to Green Ambassadors and ‘Sadhikara Mithras’.
Community toilets with the name of ‘Swachhata complex’ will be taken up on a massive scale in the State and 17,000 such complexes will be built with Rs.2 lakhs per complex. He assured to provide Rs.60 crore to Chittoor district to provide water supply connections to houses, after discussing it with CM and Minister Nara Lokesh.
It was decided to distribute five sanitary napkins per month to all adolescent girls and women below the age of 50 years and incinerators will be set up at every area to dispose used napkins. Earlier, speaking on the occasion the District Collector PS Pradyumna said that representatives of Limca Book of Records will make a field visit soon in the district to examine the individual toilets that were built in record time.
The district is now focussing on ODF Plus and 11 star Gram Panchayats. Already 330 solid waste management units were completed out of sanctioned 1233. Among these, 153 centres have already started producing wealth by producing compost. DWAMA PD Kurmanath, RWS SE Venu, DPO Suresh, SP Mahila Visvavidyalayam V-C Prof V Durga Bhavani and NAREGA state council member S Subbaramaiah participated in the meeting.
